Register for a StartApp Developer Account

The first step is to register for a StartApp Developer Account:

After registering you'll receive a confirmation email with instructions for activating your account.

Add your App to StartApp

After confirming your account, you'll see a Getting Started page containing an "Add App" button:

Choose "Android" as the App Platform, and enter your app's package name in the "App Package Name" field. You can find your app's package name on the "App Info" tab of your Andromo project:

Once you've entered your package name, press the "Get Info" button. StartApp will attempt to search for your app's name and description if it's been published already. If you've yet to publish your app, you'll be asked if your app is live or not and to provide it's name and description as shown below. Press the "Continue" button when you're done:

On the Choose SDK page, select "InApp SDK" and press the "Continue" button:

After pressing the "Continue" button, you'll see the SDK Integration page. You don't need to worry about the download SDK or integration manual options since we've handled that step for you. However on that page you'll find your StartApp "App ID" that you'll need in Andromo, so copy that value for the next step. You can find your application ID later by clicking on the "Apps and Sites" tab on the left pane and choosing the relevant ID from your app list.

Add your App ID to your Andromo App

Now that you have your StartApp "App ID", all you need to do is enable StartApp banners and/or interstitials in your Andromo app and enter your App ID. The same ID applies to both banners and interstitials. You can enable StartApp in your app and enter this value on the Monetization tab of your Andromo project.

Build and Test Your App

After you've enabled StartApp and entered your ID, rebuild your app and test it to make sure you're seeing the new banners and/or interstitials.

Introduction

Facebook Audience Network Ads represent another way for Andromo developers to monetize their Android Apps. Adding Facebook Audience Network banners and/or interstitials to your app is a very simple procedure much like other ad networks. If you're looking for information beyond what is provided in this article, refer to Facebook's Getting Started documentation. If needed, you can also contact their support department using their support contact form.

Note: Facebook's Audience Network only shows ads to users that are logged into the native Facebook app on their mobile device. As a result, fill rates can vary, so you may want to enable a second ad network that will be shown at times when no ad is available.

The steps needed are:

1. Register as a Facebook Developer
2. Create an App in Facebook
3. Create your Ad Placement IDs
4. Update your App's Basic Settings
5. Add your Placement ID(s) to your Andromo App
6. Build and Test your App
7. Publish your App for Review
8. Enter Payment Information

Register as a Facebook Developer

In order to register as a Facebook developer you'll need a Facebook account that has also been verified.

1. Go to the Facebook Developers site and click the "Log In" button at the top of the page.

2. Log into Facebook using your account credentials, or if you don't have a Facebook account yet, click the "Sign up for Facebook" link.

3. Once you're logged in, click the "Register" button at the top of the page (if visible), which will require you to verify your account by providing a telephone number.

Create an App in Facebook

If you've successfully registered as a Facebook developer the next step is to create an app in Facebook.

1. Go to the Facebook Developers site and click the green "Start Now" button.

2. On the "Link your mobile app or mobile website to a Facebook app" dialog, click the green "Create Facebook App" button.

3. On the "Create a New App ID" dialog enter the name of your app in the "Display Name" field, and click the "Create App ID" button.

4. If you see a "Security Check" dialog, follow the instructions and click "Submit".

5. Read Facebook's terms of service and if you agree, click the "Get Started" button.

Create your Ad Placement IDs

Now that you've created your app, the next step is to create an Ad Placement ID for each of the types of ads you want to include in your app - banners and/or interstitials.

Creating a Banner Placement ID

1. Ensure "Audience Network" is selected from the list along the left side of the page.

2. Select the "Placements" tab and click the "Create Ad Placement" button.

3. In the "Name" field enter a name for the banner placement such as "banner_placement".

4. In the "Steps to Trigger Ad" field, describe how the ad will be shown. For example, "Shown on every activity in the app".

5. Under "Display Format", select "Banner".

6. Select "No" for "Refresh rate handled by mediation".

7. Select the desired "Refresh Interval".

8. Under "Status" select "Enabled".

9. Click the "Save" button.

Creating an Interstitial Placement ID

1. Ensure "Audience Network" is selected from the list along the left side of the page.

2. Select the "Placements" tab and click the "Create Ad Placement" button.

3. In the "Name" field enter a name for the interstitial placement such as "interstitial_placement".

4. In the "Steps to Trigger Ad" field, describe how the ad will be shown in your app based on the "Interstitial Ad Settings" you've configured in your project. For example, "Shown when navigating between activities at a time interval of 10 minutes".

5. Under "Display Format", select "Interstitial (App Only)".

6. Under "Status" select "Enabled".

7. Click the "Save" button.

Update your App's Basic Settings

Once you've created your placement IDs, the next step is to provide your app's package name as indicated in step 2 - "Update Basic Settings" on Facebook's dashboard.

1. Select "Settings" from the list on the left side of the page.

2. Click the "+ Add Platform" button and select "Android".

3. Enter your Andromo app's package name in the "Google Play Package Name" field. You can find your app's package name on the "App Info" tab of your Andromo project under "Package Name". Normally it will be a value such as "com.andromo.devXXX.appXXX" or "net.andromo.devXXX.appXXX" where XXX is a number. If you're using a custom package name, you'll find it in the "Custom Package Name" field under "Professional Features". Enter that value without quotes.

4. Leave the rest of the fields blank and click the "Save Changes" button. You may see a warning if your app isn't live yet, but you can ignore it as stated on the dialog.

Add your Placement ID(s) to your Andromo App

Now that you've created your app's ad placement ID(s) in your Facebook Developer account, the next step is to go to the Monetization tab of your Andromo project, enable the types of ads you want to include - "Facebook Banner Ads" and/or "Facebook Interstitial Ads", and enter the "Placement ID" values that have been created. You can find each "Placement ID" by selecting the "Placements" tab and looking under "Active placements".

Build and Test your App

After you've enabled Facebook Audience Network and entered your Placement IDs, rebuild your app and test it until you start seeing test ads. It may take a few ad requests before ads start to be served to your app, so don't be alarmed if you don't see them right away.

Publish your App for Review

In order for your app to be served public ads, it must be reviewed and approved by Facebook. In order for them to review your application, you need to submit your App Store URL. Your app will be ready for submission when you see step 3, "Placement Review" highlighted, and a section visible labeled "Audience Network - Update your App Store Information". Once your application has been published, click the "Submit Your App Store URL" button and enter the URL where your app has been published (such as it's Google Play URL).

Enter Payment Information

Once your app is live as indicated on Facebook's developer page, you'll want to enter your Payment information. You can enter that information by selecting the "Payout" tab. Further information can be found in Facebook's Payment Setup Guide.

AppLovin is another AdNetwork that Andromo developers can use to monetize their Andromo apps.

Sign-up for AppLovin

The first step is to sign-up for an AppLovin account:

The signup requires a company name and a website, however you can say: “Not Applicable” or “NA” if you do not have either.

Getting your AppLovin Key

Once you have signed up, you will need to log into your account and visit the AppLovin Integration page:

From there select the Android platform option and you will be provided with the instructions on how to integrate AppLovin within an Android app. Don't worry about any of the integration details, Andromo has already taken care of that for you. What you need to look at is step two: Integrating the SDK. Specifically the code section underneath the following line:

Add the following line into your AndroidManifest.xml. This needs to go inside the "application" tag:

The code will look something like:

<meta-data android:name="applovin.sdk.key"

android:value="xxAppLovinIdxx" />

Where "xxAppLovinIdxx" will be a long string that represents your AppLovin SDK key. That is the string (without the quotes) that Andromo will need.

Note: AppLovin is a bit different than most Ad Networks as it only uses one ID for all of your apps and ad units.

Add the Key into your Andromo App

Now that you have your SDK Key all you need to do is copy that value (without the quotes) and paste it into the monetization tab of the Andromo project you want to add AppLovin to.

Run Your App

AppLovin needs to see some ad requests directed at their server before you get rid of the integration message within your AppLovin account. So we suggest you temporarily disable all other ad networks, build your app, and then run it a few times until you see your first AppLoving interstitial. This might take some time, so test every once in a while before you see at least one ad.

Once that happens your AppLovin account will be setup and you should go back to your Andromo project and re-enabled any of the ad units that you disabled previously.

The steps needed are:

1. Create an Amazon Developer account.
2. Submit your payment and tax information to Amazon
3. Obtain an Amazon Application Key.

These steps are described in the Amazon Mobile Ads API Quick Start Guide and below.

Create an Amazon Developer account

Visit the Amazon Mobile App Distribution page and create an Amazon developer account if you do not already have one.

Submit your payment and tax information to Amazon

After you have created your developer account you need to give Amazon the information they need in order to pay you. You can do this in two steps by visiting the Amazon Developer Payment Information Page and providing your payment information, and by submitting your tax information via the Tax Identity Interview. (skip this step if you have already submitted this information through the Amazon Apps & Games Developer Portal). This information is required to receive ads.

Obtain an Amazon Application Key

In order to show Amazon ads in your Andromo app you will need to obtain an Amazon Application Key and then add it to your Andromo project.

Obtaining an Amazon Application Key is described in the Amazon Mobile Ads API Quick Start Guide as follows:

Once signed in, click on the My Apps tab and select an existing app or click on the Add a New App button. For a new app, fill in the App title and Category fields and click the Save button. Click the Mobile Ads tab, answer the child-directed question, and click Submit. It's important to note that apps that are directed at children under 13 are not eligible to participate in the Amazon Mobile Ad Network. See Personal Information and COPPA in the FAQ to learn more.

If you answer that your app is not directed at children under 13, the next screen will show the unique Application Key value, which is a 32-character globally unique alphanumeric string that is used to identify your app. The same Application Key can be used across platforms, but each distinct app must have a unique Application Key. For example, the IMDb app uses the same Application Key on Android phone and Fire tablets, but the IMDb Trivia app has a different Application Key.

The Application Key is used in the setAppKey call mentioned in Step 3 of the Quick Start Guide, and your developer reports will aggregate data by Application Key. Proper use of your Application Key permits accurate tracking, reporting, and accrual of advertising fees.

Note: If you use an Application Key that is issued for one app in connection with the display of ads on a second app, we will not pay you for any resulting impression, click or other user action relating to ads on the second app.

Enable Amazon Ads in your Andromo Project

Once you have your Amazon Application Key from the Mobile Ads tab of your app in your Amazon Developer account, you need to enable Amazon Banner Ads and/or Amazon Interstitial Ads on the Monetization Tab of your Andromo project, and then enter your application key in the "Amazon Application Key" field(s). Next you will need to save your changes and rebuild your app.

If you wish to publish your app to the Amazon Appstore, see Amazon's article Submitting Apps to the Amazon Appstore or publish your app to your other favourite Android App Stores.

Signup for an AdMob Account

If you don't yet have an AdMob account, go to https://apps.admob.com and log in with your Google Account. If you don't have an existing Google Account, click "Sign Up". They recommend using your existing AdSense account if you have one. If the new interface isn't available in your country, you'll be redirected to http://www.admob.com instead. In that case, follow the instructions in the article How to get an AdMob Publisher ID instead.

Upgrading Your Existing AdMob Account

As of August 2013, AdMob has rolled out a new AdMob interface which may not be available in all countries. If you're eligible to upgrade, you'll see a notice while logged into your account stating "We have launched a new version of AdMob!" with an "Upgrade" button and "Learn more" link. You can read more about their changes and what you need to do, including a link to their Upgrade Guide in their updated Help Center. Andromo supports Ad IDs created in AdMob's new, and legacy interfaces.

Monetizing a New App

If you've yet to register your app on AdMob, follow the instructions below:

1. Log in to your AdMob account at https://apps.admob.com.

2. Click the "Monetize" tab located at the top of the page.

3. Click the "+ Monetize new app" button.

4. Select the app you want to monitize using one of the listed methods. For new apps, you'll normally choose "Add your app manually":

Search for your app - Search Google Play for your app, then click it's "+ Monetize" button located on the right.

Add your app manually - If your app is not published yet, enter the app name, select "Android" as the platform, then click "Continue". Note: They recommend linking your app to Google Play once it's published and availble. You'll find a "Link your app" link next to your app's listing on AdMob's Home tab.

Select from apps you have added - Select the app from the list of apps you've already added by clicking the "+ Monetize" button next to it.

5. Select "Banner" or "Interstitial" as the ad format based upon which type of ad your want to include. Each ad format requires a unique Ad Unit ID, so you'll need to create another ad unit afterwards if you want both banners and interstitials.

6. Banners: Leave the "Automatic refresh" setting as the default value of 60, and the "Text ad style" as "Standard" (you can experiment later if you wish).

7. Enter a value for the "Ad unit name" such as "MyApp Banner" (where MyApp is your app's name for example). They recommend a unique name and description in order to find it easier later.

8. Click the "Save" button.

9. You should now see your app's "Ad unit ID" in a format such as "ca-app-pub-XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX/XXXXXXXXXX" where "X" represents integers. Copy and paste that value into the corresponding "AdMob Ad Unit ID" field in your Andromo project. Since each ad format behaves differently, ensure you enter your Ad Unit ID into the correct section based upon it's ad format (Banner or Interstitial) as they are not interchangeable. You can also optionally email that info to yourself if you wish. Andromo takes care of all of the AdMob SDK integration, so all you need is the ID described above.

10. Click Done.

Note: You can find this value later by going to the "Monetize" tab, selecting "All apps" on the left, and selecting your app. The Ad unit ID will be listed under the Ad Unit Name you've defined.

Getting an Existing App's Ad Unit ID

If you've upgraded your AdMob account to the new interface, and imported your legacy AdMob data, you'll notice some changes to the terminology and identifiers that are used now. In the legacy AdMob interface, the previously used "Publisher ID" has now been replaced with what's called an "Ad unit ID", which is the new unique identifier for an ad unit. This is value you'll want to use in Andromo. While the Publisher ID value still exists in AdMob, it now serves a different purpose.

Andromo supports both formats of these ID values, however any new apps you create in the new AdMob interface will only generate the "Ad unit ID". Any apps that have been imported from your old AdMob account will contain both the new "Ad unit ID" and "Legacy Publisher ID" values. You can find these values by selecting the "Monetize" tab, clicking "All apps" along the left, and selecting the app whose ID you want. There you will find both IDs listed under the app name in the "Ad unit" column.

While updating your AdMob ID for legacy apps isn't required, Google does recommend it. For complete details on AdMob's upgrade, please refer to AdMob's Upgrade Guide.

Getting an Interstitial Ad Unit ID

Getting an interstitial Ad Unit ID is basically the same procedure as getting an AdMob Ad Unit ID for banner ads. Click on the Monetize Tab then select "All Apps" from the list in the upper left-hand corner. From there select the app that you want to add the interstitial to, and click the "New ad unit" button.

Next, select "Interstitial", give your ad unit a name and select save. After that you should be able to copy your Ad Unit ID into your Andromo project's "AdMob Ad Unit ID" field under "AdMob Interstitials".

Setting your Device as a Test Device

Andromo allows you to define one or more devices as 'test devices' so that you will only be shown test ads on your device. You're encouraged to do this to prevent false impressions/clicks. You can get your device ID by installing Andromo's Device ID Utility App on your device(s), copying each ID and entering them in the "AdMob Test Device IDs" field.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to upgrade my AdMob account?
Answer: No, Andromo still supports the legacy "Publisher ID" value generated in the old interface, however Google does recommend it. If you want to use interstitials you will need to upgrade your account.

Do you support AdMob mediation for other ad networks?
Answer: No, Andromo currently does not support AdMob mediation for additional ad networks.

Do I need to update my apps that use the legacy Publisher ID?
Answer: After you import your legacy AdMob data into AdMob's new interface, it does a one-time mapping of those legacy IDs to a new Ad unit ID. While it isn't required to update the IDs of your apps in Andromo, Google does recommend using the new values.

Does my app need to be in Google Play to get the Ad Unit ID?
Answer: No, one of the options when monetizing a new app is labeled as "Add your app manually". This option is provided to get the ID for apps that are not yet in Google Play. You can link your app later once you publish it.

Can I use more than one "Ad Unit ID" in my app?
Answer: Andromo supports one unique Ad Unit ID for banner ads, and one unique Ad Unit ID for interstitials within your app.
